Twitter Still Hasn’t Forgiven Trophy Room for the Backdoor Scandal

Trophy Room, the sneaker boutique owned by Michael Jordan’s son Marcus Jordan, will be renewing its long-running series of sneaker collaborations with Jordan Brand. This was confirmed by Marcus Jordan on Twitter, who wrote that he had a design huddle with the JB team and that he’s excited for what’s to come.

Jordan Brand and Trophy Room have collaborated on five of Michael Jordan’s signature sneakers since 2016, including the Air Jordan 16 and 23 from 2016, the Air Jordan 17 from 2017, the Air Jordan 5 from 2019, and the Air Jordan 1 from earlier this year.

Trophy Room’s family ties to Jordan Brand are a big reason why the relatively young retailer has had access to high-profile sneaker collaborations. It’s those same ties, however, that landed Marcus Jordan and Trophy Room in hot water during the Nike Air Jordan 1 release earlier this year.

MJ’s son was accused of backdooring the majority of his stock of the Trophy Room x Nike Air Jordan 1 to resellers, who posed with hundreds of pairs on Instagram just before and soon after the release.

Trophy Room and Marcus Jordan came under fire on social media, as unhappy sneakerheads who had hoped to have a minuscule — but fair — chance at winning the raffle, realized the odds were stacked against them to begin with. Nike also caught some flak, as it was alleged that the sportswear giant allowed it to happen due to the aforementioned family ties.

Now, with the announcement of another Trophy Room x Air Jordan collaboration, it seems social media has not forgotten the unjust release from February. Users were quick to make jokes about backdooring at Marcus Jordan’s expense. Judging by the reactions, many had not forgiven Jordan and were not expecting the next drop to be any better.

No word yet on what model Trophy Room and Jordan Brand will collaborate on next. Stay tuned for updates.
