The first weekend of Coachella Festival 2019 has officially wrapped up, and it wasn’t without its fair share of drama. Alongside a strong selection of banging headline performances, movie streams, and debut DJ sets, were technical issues that disrupted some of the weekend’s biggest performances.

When the mics weren’t failing, however, many artists seized the opportunity to acknowledge and pay tribute to late artists Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle, and discuss the impact and legacy left by both musicians.

Find our round-up of everything that went down at Coachella 2019’s first weekend below.

Anderson .Paak paid tribute to Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle

As .Paak began to perform Miller’s track “Dang” on Friday, he asked everyone in the crowd to raise their hands for his friends. “One hand in the air for my brother, I miss him so much, Mac Miller. One hand in the air for my brother, Nipsey Hussle!”

As did Jaden Smith

“We just lost a legendary person, an amazing man, a legendary MC, so I want to use this time here up on stage on Coachella to just say R.I.P Nipsey Hussle,” Smith said. “We love you.”

And Childish Gambino

Donald Glover gave tribute to Hussle and Miller, and also opened up about the death of his father, talking of legacy and how we remember those who impacted us the most. “All we really have is memories. All we are is the data we pass on to our kids, our friends, our families,” he said.

Gambino & Rihanna streamed their movie, Guava Island
